the portman estate

The Portman Estate is a property estate in Central London.  The 110 acres it covers has been owned by the Portman family since the 16th Century and is characterised by its Georgian terraces many of which are Grade II listed.  This Conservation Area contains a mix of property uses including residential, retail and offices.

The relationship between Richardsons and The Portman Estate began in 2006 when Richardsons was awarded the contract for extensive alterations and refurbishment of properties in Bryanston Square providing 14 units comprising a 5 bedroom house and 13 luxury apartments.

Since then Richardsons have successful completed many large, high-end residential and commercial projects on the estate some of which can be seen in more detail below.

Alterations and refurbishment, including strip out works and roof and structural repairs to a Grade II listed corner building located within the Portman Estate Conservation Area.

This was to provide office accommodation including an extension to house a new lift shaft, installation of secondary glazing, a large mechanical and electrical installation, including an air conditioning system, door entry and intercom systems.

Historical features were maintained and restored throughout.

GLOUCESTER PLACE HOTELS

This substantial 3 phase Portman Estate project has been carried out over the course of 21 months and comprised a complete restoration and refurbishment of six Grade II listed Georgian townhouses for a hotel regeneration project.

Much of the work carried out was to carefully reinstate historical Georgian features such as the original fenestration pattern, skirting and cornices which had been lost due to various alterations carried out in the 1960s.  Lifts were installed in each of the 6 hotels, finishes and furniture are modern in design.
